1. Research Students အတြက္လိုအပ္ခ်က္မ်ား
1. FIELDS OF STUDY
Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field. Moreover, the fields of study must be subjects which applicants will be able to study and research in graduate courses at Japanese universities.
The fields of study may be restricted to particular fields by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General (hereinafter referred to as the “Japanese diplomatic mission”) in the applicant’s country.
Traditional entertainment arts such as Kabuki and classical Japanese dances, or subjects that require practical training in specific technologies or techniques at factories or companies are not included in the fields of study under this scholarship program.
A student who studies medicine, dentistry or welfare science will not be allowed to engage in clinical training such as medical care and operative surgery until he/she obtains a relevant license from the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare under applicable Japanese laws.

2. QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Nationality: Applicant must be Myanmar Nationality.
(2) Age: Applicants, in principle, must have been born on or after April 2, 1985.
(3) Academic Background:
Eligible applicants satisfy the qualification requirements for admission to a master’s degree course or a doctoral degree course at a Japanese graduate school. (Includes applicants who are certainly expected to satisfy the requirements by the time of enrollment.)
Students must satisfy any one of the following eligibility criteria.
1 Master’s program / Doctoral program (first phase)

Japanese university graduates.
Students that have been conferred their bachelor’s degree through the National Institution for Academic
Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education (NIAD-QE).

Students who have completed 16 years of school education in countries other than Japan.
Students who have completed a program with the standard study period of three years or more at universities or equivalent educational institutions in countries other than Japan and received a degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
Students who have completed 16 years of education at education institutions in Japan recognized as having overseas undergraduate programs.
Students who have completed designated professional training college courses.
Students recognized as having academic abilities equivalent to or better than university graduates in an individual entrance qualification examination conducted by a graduate school, and who have reached 22 years of age.
(5) Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese universities.
(6) In principle, the Applicants must not be Government employee.

3. SELECTION
1. MAJA will perform primary screening of applicants by means of submitted application documents, interviews and examinations.
Examination subjects – All applicants must sit examinations in English.
2. Results of the primary screening will be notified to applicants on the date designated by MAJA.
3. Applicants who have been selected by this primary screening will be nominated to embassy of Japan.
4. The nominated candidates will have to sit for tests and Interview conducted by embassy of Japan and the selected applicants will be recommended to MEXT.
5. MEXT will perform final selection of the recommended applicants and select scholarship grantees.

2. Undergraduate Students အတြက္လိုအပ္ခ်က္မ်ား
1. FIELDS OF STUDY

2. QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Nationality: The Applicant must be Myanmar Nationality.
(2) Age: Applicants, in principle, must be born on or after April 2, 1995.
(3) Academic Background: Applicants must satisfy any one of the following conditions. However, applicants desiring direct placement must satisfy either the following
or condition.
Applicants who have completed 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan. (Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2020 are eligible. However, applicants wishing to enroll from the autumn term through direct placement must be expected to complete 12 years of schooling by August 2020.)
Applicants who have completed their studies at a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school in countries other than Japan. (Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2020 are eligible.)
Other than the above and conditions, applicants who are eligible for enrollment in a Japanese university at the time of application.
(5) Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese universities.
(6) The Applicants must not be Government employee.

3. SELECTION
1. MAJA will perform primary screening of applicants by means of submitted application documents, interviews and academic examinations (See below for subjects of examination)
(Subject for examination)
For applicants for a major in social Sciences and Humanities: All applicants must sit for mathematic, English and Japanese (3 subjects in all)
For applicants for a major in Natural Sciences: All applicants must sit for mathematics, English, two subjects selected from among physics, chemistry and biology, and Japanese (5 subjects in all).For selecting tow from physics, chemistry and biology, applicants must choose
Physics and chemistry when applying for Natural Sciences A; and
Chemistry and biology when applying for Natural Sciences B or C.
2. Results of the primary screening will be notified to applicants on the date designated by MAJA.
3. Applicants who have been selected by this primary screening will be nominated to embassy of Japan.
4. The nominated candidates will have to sit for tests and Interview conducted by embassy of Japan and the selected applicants will be recommended to MEXT.
5. MEXT will perform final selection of the recommended applicants and select scholarship grantees.

3. College of Technology Students အတြက္လိုအပ္ခ်က္မ်ား
1. FIELDS OF STUDY
Those who wish to study in Japan as students at a college of technology must choose a field of specialization (major) from among (1) to (8) below.
(1) Mechanical Engineering;
(2) Electrical and Electronic Engineering;
(3) Information, Communication and Network Engineering;
(4) Materials Engineering;
(5) Architecture

(6) Civil Engineering;
(7) Maritime Engineering;
(8) Other Fields
Note
: Applicants must select a “Field of study” and “Majors and related key terms” from the Annex “Majors and Related Key Terms for Fields of Study” and enter them in “11) Preferred fields of study and Majors and Related Key Terms in Japan” on the application form. Applicants may enter a first, second and third choice of field of study. For each of the three choices be sure to enter your desired subject of study, referring to the Annex “Majors and Related Key Terms for Fields of Study.”
Note 2: (4) Materials engineering may not be studied in combination with other fields of study. Applicants wishing to choose more than one major, should select their first, second and third choice of major from ones under “(4) Materials engineering.”
Note
 3: An Applicant who wishes to (7) Maritime engineering must have vision of 0.5 or more in either eye with or without glasses, and no color-blindness.
Note 4: Applicants for a major in the fields categorized as (8) Other Fields (International Communication, Management Information Engineering, etc.) may have difficulties in finding colleges of technology capable of accepting them.
2. QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Nationality: The Applicant must be Myanmar nationality.
(2) Age: Applicants, in principle, must be born between on or after April 2, 1995.
(3) Academic Background: Applicants, in principle, must have graduated from an upper secondary school (viz. have completed 11 years of school education starting from elementary school). Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2020 are eligible.)
(4) Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in general, applicants must be willing to receive college of technology education in Japanese.
(5) Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese schools.
(6) The Applicants must not be Government employee.

1. MAJA will perform primary screening of applicants by means of submitted application documents, interviews and academic examinations.

All applicants wishing to study (4) Materials engineering must sit examinations in Japanese, English, mathematics, and chemistry.
All applicants wishing to study in fields other than (4) Materials engineering must sit examinations in Japanese, English, mathematics, and physics.

3. Applicants who have been selected by this primary screening will be nominated to embassy of Japan.

4. Specialized Training College Students အတြက္လိုအပ္ခ်က္မ်ား
1.FIELDS OF STUDY
Those who wish to study in Japan as a student at a specialized training college should choose a field of study to major in from (1) to (7) below.

 Education and Welfare

 Fashion and Home Economics

 Culture and General Education
(7)
 Other Fields
Note 1: Select a field of study from (1)-(7) above, and enter it in “Preferred field of study in Japan” on the application form. Applicants may also refer to a separate sheet titled “Majors and related subjects for field of study”, and enter a first and second choice of subjects from the same field of study.
Note 2: Applicants who choose (7) “Other Fields” are required to specify what kind of field they want to study in “Chosen field of study and subjects in Japan (Field of study)”on the application form.
Note 3: For applicants who choose (7) “Other Fields,” there may be cases when there are no accepting colleges or it is difficult to be accepted at a college because the period of study exceeds that of the MEXT scholarship.
Note 4: Applicants who select “Other Fields” for a field of study should specify their chosen subject in “Chosen field of study and subjects in Japan (First choice of subjects, Second choice of subjects)” on the application form.

Applicants must be a graduate from a Japanese university or have academic ability equal or superior to that of a Japanese university graduate. A person will be deemed to have academic ability equal or superior to that of a university graduate, if he/she:

has completed or will complete 16 years of school education in a foreign country (or 18 years of school education if he/she desires to enroll in a doctoral course in the field of medicine, dentistry or veterinary science, or pharmacy which is based on a 6-year course in a department or faculty); or
② is or will be aged 22 or older and has taken an individual entrance qualification examination and has been judged by a Japanese graduate school as being equal or superior in academic ability to a university graduate (or 24 or older if he/she desires to enroll in a doctoral course in the field of medicine, dentistry or veterinary science, or pharmacy which is based on a 6-year course in a department or faculty). Eligible applicants include those who otherwise satisfy or will satisfy qualification requirements for admission to a Japanese graduate school. As a general rule, a person who has completed a doctoral course may not apply unless he/she seeks to obtain a degree.
(4) Japanese Language:
Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. Applicants must also have the ability to do research and adapt to living in Japan.
(5) Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese graduate school.
(6) In principle, the Applicants must not be Government employee.
